Imagery on Earth Without People
Alan Weisman is journalist and a great writer who uses imagery on “Earth Without People.” In this article he explains what would happen if humans suddenly disappear. In my opinion he uses a lot of sight imagery in this article more than any of the other senses.
He explains how New York will look like if all humans disappear and some of the facts or opinions he says are quite interesting. Alan explains how the “freezing and thawing in common months like March and November would split cement in a decade” and as it “froze and expanded cracks would widen and soon weeds such as mustard and goosegrass would invade” (Weisman). This gives me of how a forest would begin. He then explains how animals like “Coyote would invade Central Park, and deer, bears and finally wolves would follow” (Weisman).
Alan Weisman really knows how to show imagery threw his journals and writings because I really got a good mental picture on what Alan was trying to create and portray. The effect of imagery that it left on me was that if people disappeared the world would be one big forest or wilderness. When he was explaining how New York would look like, it reminded me of the movie “I am Legend” featuring Will Smith.  I think that was the image he was trying to portray and he did an excellent job.

Beowulf the Great General
A sea monster has awakened in China, and is a big threat to the country. This monster was once known as Godzilla, but now they call it Grendel. He has been attack the big bell temple in Beijing. China has sent their military forces to try and defeat it, but they are no match for this unbelievably strong monster. They need back up, so they call America.  As soon as the news reaches the president of the United States, the president ask the all mighty General for his help.  The all mighty general has the reputation of being greatest leader who ever lived. He is known for his courage and bravery in battle.  His name is Beowulf.
The President calls Beowulf and tells him, “I need you in my office, code red.” Beowulf knew it was urgent because he indicates that it is a code red. He packed his bag and took the next flight to Washington. When Beowulf arrives, the president shows great respect and thanks him for making an appearance. He tells Beowulf our allies, china, is in trouble and that there is a sea monster destroying and terrorizing their country and they called for our help. The president tells Beowulf that he does not know what to do because he does not want this monster killing all of his men. Beowulf tells him not to worry that he will take care of this horrible monster and that he will pay for what he has done.
Beowulf takes a small group of soldiers to china. They take off the next day in a private jet flying over the whale-road. China is aware that Beowulf is coming so they prepare a party for him. When Beowulf arrived the party was filled with celebrities from all over the world. They were drinking and having a blast, but Beowulf knew he was not there for his pleasure and delight, so he was completely focused. During the party, Beowulf was accused of being weak and pathetic.  But Beowulf just shrugs it off and tells him that he is a coward and a baby.
Grendel waits until the temple is quiet and all the people are asleep. At 3:00 a.m., in comes this giant monster bursting the doors wide open with all his strength. Beowulf is ready. He sees that Grendel has no weapon, so he drops his machine gun and fights with his bear hands. Grendel is quick and strong, but Beowulf on the other hand is to smart for Grendel. Beowulf waits for a right hook from Grendel to rip his arm off, and sooner or later it comes. Beowulf was so fast that Grendel had no chance to react. Beowulf catches the right hook with both hands and rips his entire arm off his body. Grendel yells an agony. With all the strength Grendel has he uses it to escape from Beowulf.
The president of china is very pleased with what Beowulf has accomplished. The president of china throws a big dinner in his honor. During the dinner he makes a toast to Beowulf thanking him and tells his people that he is the greatest general who ever lived. He rewards him greatly with a Medal of Honor and loads of money, and Beowulf respectfully accepts gift with great honor and integrity.

UCF
As a child, I grew up around two big bothers and a sister. I was the youngest of three siblings. I have always looked up to my big brothers, Eddie and Adalberto. They are the two people who inspire me the most. I always did my best to live up to the expectations they have set for me, because having my mother proud is what I always aspired in my life. Once both of my brothers decided to attend University of Central Florida, my interest for learning about UCF and becoming a knight became greater. Their rigorous business program also interests me and is an essential reason why I would like to attend UCF.
My brothers have accomplished amazing goals at their University. Adalberto, bowled for his first two years representing UCF and their bowling team, he traveled all over the country competing against other colleges and made it all the way to nationals in his second year. After his second year he decided to become involved in Greek life, where he contributed as an active member in philanthropic events. Eddie took a different route and joined the LEAD Scholars program as well as the Orientation Team, learning to improve his leadership skills. As Chair of the President’s Leadership Council, he continues to make a significant impact in the UCF and Orlando community.
UCF stands for opportunity and despite being the second largest university in the nation, it still manages to accommodate every student. My brothers have left huge expectations for me to live up to, and I have always been ready to step up to the challenge. I want to leave a big impact at UCF, just like my brothers. In my first year at UCF, I would like to join the Orientation Team to improve my leadership skills.  As my college career progresses, I would like to join the Greek life and be a part of something special just like both of my brothers. I wish to join a fraternity that gets involved with the University I attend. I enjoy participating in campus activities and servicing the Orlando community and University. I love meeting new people and at Lake Mary Preparatory School I am a part of student ambassador where I represent my school and introduce new students that want to attend Lake Mary Prep. I aim for people to speak great things of me. When people hear the name Adam Garcia I want them to remember how caring and kindhearted I was to others.  Both of my brothers are leaving positive marks at UCF, and now it is my turn.
