Imagery
on Earth Without People
Alan
Weisman is journalist and a great writer who uses imagery on “Earth Without
People.” In this article he explains what would happen if humans suddenly
disappear. In my opinion he uses a lot of sight imagery in this article more
than any of the other senses.
He
explains how New York will look like if all humans disappear and some of the
facts or opinions he says are quite interesting. Alan explains how the
“freezing and thawing in common months like March and November would split
cement in a decade” and as it “froze and expanded cracks would widen and soon
weeds such as mustard and goosegrass would invade” (Weisman). This gives me of
how a forest would begin. He then explains how animals like “Coyote would
invade Central Park, and deer, bears and finally wolves would follow”
(Weisman).
Alan
Weisman really knows how to show imagery threw his journals and writings
because I really got a good mental picture on what Alan was trying to create
and portray. The effect of imagery that it left on me was that if people
disappeared the world would be one big forest or wilderness. When he was
explaining how New York would look like, it reminded me of the movie “I am
Legend” featuring Will Smith. I think
that was the image he was trying to portray and he did an excellent job.
